Why riders choose the CARBO Model X

What makes it a folding e-bike.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 Power

250W / 350W, geared for gradient

250W / 350W. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Torque is what you feel; watts are what the marketing quotes. A motor with useful pulling power low in its range gets you moving from a standstill on a gradient — at a light, on a driveway apron, halfway up a climb you had to stop on. Those are the moments that decide whether a bike gets ridden or parked.

  • 32 km/hAssisted to

Any climbing claim assumes a rider putting in their share. A throttle-only ascent drains the pack far faster than the range figure suggests.

02 Between charges

Up to 55 km claimed, and what that means

Up to 55 km claimed, 10.05-65 km range or 6.7Ah-40 km range. Charging takes 3.5 hr, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

The number worth knowing is not how far it goes on a perfect day, but how far it still goes in February with a headwind and a cold pack. Batteries lose capacity in the cold and regain it when they warm; a pack with genuine headroom absorbs that, and one bought exactly to your commute length does not.

  • 55 kmClaimed range
  • 3.5 hrCharge time

Up to 55 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Control

Null, and why it matters

Tektro HD-E350 Hydraulic Disc, 20" x 2.0" tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive.

Stopping distance is set by the tyre as much as by the caliper. The best brakes in the world cannot exceed the grip available, which is why contact patch, compound and pressure matter as much on a wet Vancouver morning as the hardware clamping the rotor.

  • 13.3 kgWeight

BC requires a standard e-bike to stop from 32 km/h within 9 m on clean, level pavement. That is a dry-surface test — assume noticeably longer in Vancouver rain, and leave the gap to prove it.

04 Fit

Toray Premium Carbon frame, and what it means

Toray Premium Carbon frame. Fit decides whether a bike is still being ridden in month three, and it is the one specification a photograph cannot tell you — reach, standover and saddle height interact, and two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups. It weighs 13.3 kg, which is worth knowing before you commit if it has to come up a flight of stairs or onto a bus rack at the end of the ride.

Fit is the specification that decides whether a bike gets ridden after the first month, and it is the one that cannot be judged from a photograph. Reach, standover and saddle height interact — two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups, and the adjustment range is what lets a bike belong to you rather than merely fit you.

  • 13.3 kgWeight

Height charts assume average proportions. Two riders at the same height with different inseams will want different setups, so treat any published range as a starting point and expect to move the saddle and bars.

05 Pedalling

Null

Transmission: Carbon belt drive / Gear Ratio: 75/22T, Throttle: Add Throttle / No throttle. Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time. Assistance runs to 32 km/h; past that the motor stops helping and the drivetrain is doing all of it, which is exactly when the spread of gears starts to matter.

Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do. The right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit in its efficient band, where it runs cooler and draws less; the wrong one grinds through both your knees and your range. A usable spread of gears is worth more than an extra sprocket you never select.

  • 32 km/hAssisted to

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.
