Why riders choose the Himiway C5

What makes it a moped-style all-terrain e-bike.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 The drive unit

750 W Geared Hub Motor, geared for gradient

750 W Geared Hub Motor. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Climbing is where an e-bike either justifies itself or does not. A drive unit with real torque in reserve turns the hill you avoid into the route you prefer, and it does it without asking you to hammer the pedals or slow to walking pace. That change in what you are willing to ride to is the whole reason people buy these.

  • 750 WMotor
  • 32.2 km/hAssisted to

Any climbing claim assumes a rider putting in their share. A throttle-only ascent drains the pack far faster than the range figure suggests.

02 Range

48V 20Ah of usable pack

128.7 km claimed, 48V 20Ah. The figure that shapes your week is not the maximum but the margin left at the end of an ordinary day, in the cold, with the lights on.

Range is the most quoted figure in this category and the least reliable, because it is measured in the conditions most favourable to it. What actually shapes your week is charge time and how much margin you have left at the end of a normal day — a pack you top up twice a week without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

  • 128.7 kmClaimed range
  • 48 VBattery

128.7 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Control

Stops 149.7 kg of bike and rider

Nutt JAK-8 mechanical disc brake/ C5 Ultra: Tektro HD-E3520 hydraulic brake, 20” x 4" tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive. Rated to 149.7 kg all in, that is the weight the brakes and the contact patch are being asked to arrest on a wet painted line.

An e-bike carries far more mass and speed than the bicycle it is descended from, and the brakes are the component most often carried over unchanged. Consistent lever feel at the bottom of a long descent — no fade, no wandering bite point — is what you are paying for, and it is invisible until the one time you need it.

  • 149.7 kgMax total load
  • 39.9 kgWeight

Mechanical discs need the cable adjusting as the pads wear. It is a two-minute job and the difference between a good lever and a vague one, so do not put it off.

04 Fit

6061 Aluminum Alloy frame, and what it means

Applicable Height: 5'4" ~ 6'3", 6061 Aluminum Alloy frame. Fit decides whether a bike is still being ridden in month three, and it is the one specification a photograph cannot tell you — reach, standover and saddle height interact, and two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups. It weighs 39.9 kg, which is worth knowing before you commit if it has to come up a flight of stairs or onto a bus rack at the end of the ride.

Come and stand over it. Ten minutes with the saddle at the right height tells you more than any size chart, and it is the difference between a bike that disappears underneath you and one you are always slightly negotiating with.

  • 6061 Aluminum AlloyFrame
  • 39.9 kgWeight
  • 149.7 kgMax total load

Height charts assume average proportions. Two riders at the same height with different inseams will want different setups, so treat any published range as a starting point and expect to move the saddle and bars.

05 Drivetrain

Assist to 32.2 km/h, then it is you

Chain: KMC Z1eHX 120L/ C5 Ultra: KMC Z8.3 EPT 130L, Throttle: Thumb Throttle. Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time. Assistance runs to 32.2 km/h; past that the motor stops helping and the drivetrain is doing all of it, which is exactly when the spread of gears starts to matter.

The drivetrain is what riders upgrade first and shop for last. Chain, cassette and pads are consumables on any bike and wear faster under assistance, so the practical question is not which groupset is fitted but how cheaply and quickly it can be serviced when it wears — which is a question about your shop, not your bike.

  • 32.2 km/hAssisted to

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

Himiway C5 Motorcycle-Style Electric Bike

The Himiway C5 is a bold, motorcycle-inspired electric bike built for riders who want fat-tire stability, long range, and full-suspension comfort in a distinctive urban and recreational platform.

A 750W geared hub motor delivers up to 86 N·m of torque, while the 48V 20Ah Samsung/LG battery provides a manufacturer-rated range of up to 80 miles (129 km) under suitable conditions. Actual range varies with rider weight, terrain, speed, assist level, temperature, and riding style.

Full Suspension and 20" × 4" Fat Tires

The C5 uses 20-inch × 4-inch Kenda fat tires for added traction and cushioning across pavement, gravel, dirt, and uneven surfaces.

A 140 mm inverted front suspension fork works with an adjustable rear shock to help absorb impacts and provide a smoother ride on rougher terrain.

Hydraulic Brakes and Shimano Gearing

Hydraulic disc brakes provide responsive stopping control, while a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain gives riders practical gearing for hills, city riding, and mixed terrain.

The C5 also includes a thumb throttle, integrated rear lighting, and a backlit display for key ride information.

Moto-Style Comfort and Practical Design

An extended motorcycle-style saddle allows riders to adjust their seating position, while the reinforced 6061 aluminum frame is rated for a maximum payload of up to 330 lb (150 kg).

For riders looking for a Himiway C5 in Vancouver, ProMechBC provides local product support, service, repairs, and access to experienced electric-bike technicians.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
