Why riders choose the Himiway D5 Zebra

What makes it an all-terrain e-bike.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 The drive unit

750W brushless gear motor, geared for gradient

750W brushless gear motor. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Torque is what you feel; watts are what the marketing quotes. A motor with useful pulling power low in its range gets you moving from a standstill on a gradient — at a light, on a driveway apron, halfway up a climb you had to stop on. Those are the moments that decide whether a bike gets ridden or parked.

  • 750 WMotor
  • 25 km/hAssisted to

Any climbing claim assumes a rider putting in their share. A throttle-only ascent drains the pack far faster than the range figure suggests.

02 The battery

128.7 km claimed, and what that means

128.7 km claimed, 48V 20Ah or LG/Samsung battery. The figure that shapes your week is not the maximum but the margin left at the end of an ordinary day, in the cold, with the lights on. No — Built-in Battery, which decides whether it charges beside your desk or wherever the machine happens to be parked.

Every battery is a consumable, and how you treat it decides whether that means five years or two. Charging to full only when you need the full range, keeping it off the charger once it is there, and storing it indoors through winter are worth more to its lifespan than any figure on the spec sheet.

  • 128.7 kmClaimed range
  • No — Built-in BatteryBattery

128.7 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Brakes

Stops 181.4 kg of bike and rider

Tektro HD-E3520 hydraulic brake, 26" x 4" tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive. Rated to 181.4 kg all in, that is the weight the brakes and the contact patch are being asked to arrest on a wet painted line.

Nobody shops on brakes and everybody remembers them. The right question is not how hard it stops on a dry test but whether the fifth hard stop feels like the first, in the rain, with luggage and a passenger-weight load on the rack.

  • 181.4 kgMax total load
  • 35.8 kgWeight

BC requires a standard e-bike to stop from 32 km/h within 9 m on clean, level pavement. That is a dry-surface test — assume noticeably longer in Vancouver rain, and leave the gap to prove it.

04 Fit

Sized for Applicable Height: 5'3" ~ 6'5"

Applicable Height: 5'3" ~ 6'5", Upgraded 6061 Aluminum frame. Fit decides whether a bike is still being ridden in month three, and it is the one specification a photograph cannot tell you — reach, standover and saddle height interact, and two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups. It weighs 35.8 kg, which is worth knowing before you commit if it has to come up a flight of stairs or onto a bus rack at the end of the ride.

The frame is the one part you cannot upgrade later. Everything bolted to it can be changed as it wears or as your taste changes, which is why the material, the geometry and the honesty of the joins are worth more attention than the components hanging off them.

  • Upgraded 6061 AluminumFrame
  • 35.8 kgWeight
  • 181.4 kgMax total load

Height charts assume average proportions. Two riders at the same height with different inseams will want different setups, so treat any published range as a starting point and expect to move the saddle and bars.

05 Assist

Chain: KMC chain

Chain: KMC chain, Throttle: Thumb Throttle. Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time. Assistance runs to 25 km/h; past that the motor stops helping and the drivetrain is doing all of it, which is exactly when the spread of gears starts to matter.

Assist cut-off is set by regulation, not by ambition, and a bike that keeps helping past the legal limit is a different legal class the moment it leaves the shop. Knowing where the motor stops and you start is worth understanding before you buy rather than after.

  • 25 km/hAssisted to

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

Himiway D5 Zebra All-Terrain Electric Bike

The Himiway D5 Zebra Electric Bike is a rugged fat-tire e-bike built for riders who want extended range, strong motor assistance, and stable handling across pavement, gravel, dirt, and other mixed surfaces.

The current D5 Zebra uses a 750W geared rear hub motor, providing strong support for hills, starts, and heavier loads. Himiway pairs the motor with a torque-sensor pedal assist system, allowing motor support to respond more naturally to rider input.

960Wh Samsung/LG Battery and Long Range

A removable 48V 20Ah Samsung/LG lithium-ion battery provides approximately 960Wh of capacity.

Himiway lists a maximum pedal-assist range of up to 80 miles (129 km) and up to approximately 60 miles (97 km) when relying more heavily on electric power. Actual range varies with terrain, assist level, rider weight, temperature, tire pressure, and riding style.

26" × 4" Fat Tires and Hydraulic Brakes

The D5 Zebra rides on 26" × 4" Kenda fat tires with K-Shield puncture protection, providing added traction and stability on loose gravel, rough pavement, dirt, and changing weather conditions.

Hydraulic disc brakes provide controlled braking performance, while the front suspension helps reduce vibration and impacts from rougher surfaces.

Strong Frame and Practical Features

Himiway uses a reinforced 6061 aluminum frame with an integrated removable battery design. The bike is rated for a maximum payload of up to 400 lb, making it suitable for larger riders and riders carrying additional gear.

Other practical features include a thumb throttle, LCD display with USB charging, integrated headlight, brake-activated taillight, rear rack, and full fenders.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
