Why riders choose the InMotion RS

What makes it a hyper-performance all-terrain scooter.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 Off the line

Climbs to 50% without drama

Thumb Throttle. Smooth power delivery is worth more than a big number on a spec sheet — it is what makes a machine feel predictable in traffic.

What separates a good motor from a fast one is composure. A well-matched controller feeds power in smoothly enough that you stop thinking about it, holds a steady line through a corner under load, and does not surge when the road tips upward. That is the difference you feel on every ride, long after the top-speed number has stopped being interesting.

  • 50%Max gradient
  • Thumb ThrottleThrottle

A gradient rating is measured with a light rider on dry ground. Loaded, wet, or with a low battery, treat 50% as optimistic.

02 Distance

72V40Ah – 21700 Cells of usable pack

Up to 160 km claimed, 72V40Ah – 21700 Cells. Charging takes 382, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

The number worth knowing is not how far it goes on a perfect day, but how far it still goes in February with a headwind and a cold pack. Batteries lose capacity in the cold and regain it when they warm; a pack with genuine headroom absorbs that, and one bought exactly to your commute length does not.

  • 160 kmClaimed range
  • 72 VBattery
  • 382Charge time

Up to 160 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Handling

Null when it counts

Hydraulic Brakes Front&Rear / Electric Regenerative Assistance, 11 x 3.5-inch Tubeless Tires tyres. Braking, tyre and suspension are one system and only as good as the weakest of the three: the best calipers stop nothing once the tyre lets go, and grip is what suspension exists to protect when the surface stops cooperating. All of it is working against 50 kg of machine before you add a rider, which is the load every stop has to absorb.

Confidence is the actual product here. A machine that stops predictably, in the wet, from speed, on a surface you did not choose, is one you ride assertively and therefore safely. One you have to think about is one you ride tentatively, which is its own kind of risk.

Hydraulic discs give the best stopping force per finger, and they need bleeding eventually. Bring it in when the lever starts feeling soft rather than waiting for it to reach the bar.

04 Weather

IPX6 against a wet commute

IPX6 rated, 11 x 3.5-inch Tubeless Tires tyres. Half of the riding year here is wet and dark, which puts sealing and lighting in the same category as brakes rather than in the category of extras. Hydraulic Suspension Front&Rear keeps the tyre pressed to a surface that stops cooperating the moment it rains.

Being seen matters more here than being dry. Half of the riding year is done in low light and rain, when a driver's attention is already stretched, and lighting that is genuinely bright and permanently mounted is worth more than any amount of reflective clothing you have to remember to put on.

  • IPX6Ingress rating

IPX6 covers rain and road spray. It does not cover immersion — riding through standing water, or pressure-washing the machine, will get water past that seal and into the controller, and no warranty covers it. Wipe it down instead.

50 kg to carry

50 kg. The number that decides whether a scooter gets used is rarely the range — it is whether you can carry it up a flight of stairs, into a boot or onto a bus rack without planning your day around it. Rated to 150 kg, so the weight it carries and the weight you carry are both accounted for.

A folding mechanism is the part that gets used most and inspected least. Latches loosen, hinges develop play, and a stem that has gone slightly loose is the most common thing we tighten on a bench. Fold it a few times before you buy, and check that same joint every few months after.

  • 50 kgWeight
  • 150 kgMax rider weight

50 kg is a two-handed lift for most people, not a one-handed one. If it has to go on a bus rack or up stairs daily, come and pick it up in the shop first.

InMotion RS Electric Scooter

The InMotion RS Electric Scooter is a flagship dual-motor performance scooter built for experienced riders who want extreme power, long-range capability, advanced suspension adjustment, and a highly adaptable chassis.

With dual 2000W motors, a massive 72V 40Ah battery, hydraulic braking, 11-inch tubeless tires, adjustable ride height, smartphone connectivity, and a 330 lb rider capacity, the RS sits firmly in the high-performance category rather than the everyday commuter class.

Dual 2000W Motors & Up to 8400W Peak Power

The InMotion RS uses two 2000W motors, providing 4000W of rated power and up to 8400W of combined peak output.

InMotion rates the RS for speeds of up to approximately 68 mph (110 km/h) and climbing capability of up to a 50% grade.

That substantial power reserve provides strong acceleration and hill-climbing capability while giving experienced riders plenty of performance for demanding recreational riding.

Massive 72V 40Ah Battery

Power comes from a large 72V 40Ah lithium battery with approximately 2880Wh of capacity.

InMotion lists a maximum range of up to 100 miles (approximately 160 km) under its specified test conditions.

As with any high-performance electric scooter, actual range can vary significantly depending on speed, acceleration, rider weight, elevation, temperature, wind, and riding style.

For riders making genuinely long journeys, however, the RS offers considerably more battery reserve than a conventional commuter scooter.

Dual Charging Capability

The large battery can be charged in approximately 8 hours using one charger or around 4.5 hours when using two compatible chargers.

Dual charging is particularly valuable on a scooter with nearly 3kWh of battery capacity, allowing riders to reduce downtime between longer trips.

Four-Level Adjustable Ride Height

One of the most distinctive features of the InMotion RS is its four-level adjustable ride-height system.

The chassis can be configured at approximately 183 mm, 213 mm, 253 mm, or 303 mm of ground clearance, allowing riders to adapt the scooter for different conditions.

A lower setting can improve road-focused stability, while the higher configurations provide additional clearance for rougher surfaces.

This gives the RS considerably more versatility than performance scooters with fixed chassis geometry.

Adjustable Hydraulic Suspension

The RS combines its variable ride height with an advanced adjustable hydraulic suspension system.

Riders can tune the suspension according to their weight, riding style, and road conditions, making the RS capable of delivering a more controlled ride across everything from smoother pavement to rougher recreational routes.

The suspension system also complements the large tires and substantial chassis, helping keep the scooter composed when surfaces become uneven.

160 mm Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Stopping power comes from front and rear hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors, supported by electronic braking.

The hydraulic system provides progressive mechanical stopping force, while the electronic braking system contributes additional deceleration.

Strong braking hardware is particularly important on a scooter with the RS’s combination of speed, weight, and motor output.

11 × 3.5-Inch Tubeless Tires

The RS rides on wide 11 × 3.5-inch tubeless pneumatic tires.

The large footprint provides additional stability and traction, while the pneumatic construction works together with the suspension to absorb road imperfections.

The tire size reinforces the RS’s performance-oriented character and gives it a much more substantial feel than compact commuter scooters.

Smart Battery Management System

InMotion equips the RS with an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) designed to monitor the large 72V battery during charging and riding.

The system monitors factors such as cell voltage, current, temperature, charging, discharging, and balancing while providing protection against electrical and thermal abnormalities.

On a high-capacity 2880Wh battery, sophisticated battery management is an important part of both performance and long-term ownership.

InMotion App Connectivity

The RS supports the InMotion mobile app, allowing riders to access additional scooter information and supported settings from a smartphone.

The connected platform gives riders more control over the scooter’s behaviour and complements the onboard dashboard for owners who want more detailed configuration options.

Large Central Display

The RS features a large dashboard positioned directly in the rider’s line of sight.

Essential information such as speed, battery level, riding mode, and scooter status can be viewed without relying on a smartphone while riding.

The cockpit is designed around performance riding, with controls positioned to remain accessible while keeping both hands securely on the handlebars.

Integrated Lighting & Turn Signals

The InMotion RS features an extensive integrated lighting system including a powerful headlight, rear lighting, brake lights, and front and rear turn signals.

Integrated indicators are particularly useful on a large performance scooter because they allow the rider to communicate turns while maintaining a secure two-handed grip.

Additional ambient lighting also gives the RS a distinctive appearance after dark.

IPX6 Water Resistance

The InMotion RS carries an IPX6 water-resistance rating, providing considerably stronger water protection than many performance scooters.

This makes the RS better prepared for unexpected wet conditions encountered during normal riding, although it should still not be treated as waterproof or intentionally submerged.

Built for Larger Riders

InMotion rates the RS for riders up to 330 lb (approximately 150 kg).

The large chassis, wide deck, adjustable suspension, and powerful dual-motor drivetrain make it particularly suitable for riders who may find smaller commuter scooters restrictive.

RS vs. RS Lite

The InMotion RS Lite provides a more accessible route into the same general platform, while the standard RS is designed for riders who want maximum battery capacity and stronger performance.

The RS uses a 72V 40Ah battery and up to 8400W of peak power, giving it considerably more energy reserve and performance capability.

For riders who do not need the full range or power of the flagship configuration, the RS Lite can make more sense. For riders who specifically want the strongest version of the platform, the standard RS is the more appropriate choice.

Performance Comes with Serious Weight

The InMotion RS weighs approximately 128 lb (58 kg).

That makes it a substantial machine rather than a portable commuter. Although the stem folds for storage and transportation, carrying the RS upstairs or regularly combining it with public transit would be difficult for most riders.

The scooter makes the most sense for owners with suitable ground-level storage who intend to ride it rather than frequently carry it.

Who Is the InMotion RS Best For?

The InMotion RS Electric Scooter is best suited to experienced riders who prioritize:

  • extreme dual-motor performance,

  • large battery capacity,

  • long-distance riding,

  • adjustable suspension,

  • customizable ride height,

  • strong hydraulic braking,

  • wide tubeless tires,

  • and a highly stable performance chassis.

Riders primarily making short city commutes will likely find the RS unnecessarily large and powerful. Riders seeking a serious long-range performance platform, however, get a rare combination of speed, battery capacity, adjustability, and ride comfort.

For riders searching for an InMotion RS Electric Scooter in Vancouver, the RS represents the flagship end of the performance-scooter market, combining enormous dual-motor output, a 2880Wh battery, advanced suspension, and one of the most adaptable chassis designs in the InMotion lineup.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.
