The Rize MD Electric Bike is a mid-drive all-terrain e-bike designed for riders who want strong climbing performance, balanced handling, and long-range capability. The current Canadian model uses a Bafang BBS02 mid-drive motor with 120 N·m of torque, paired with a 48V 15Ah Samsung battery (720Wh) and a manufacturer-rated range of up to approximately 70 km on the standard battery.

An optional dual-battery system increases total capacity to 48V 30Ah / 1440Wh and extends the manufacturer-rated range to up to 140 km in the Canadian configuration. The Rize MD also features SR Suntour front suspension, Kenda puncture-resistant tires, dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors, Shimano Acera 7-speed gearing, a gear-shift sensor, thumb throttle, rear rack, and full fenders.

01 Motor

Bafang 500w 120Nm. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Climbing is where an e-bike either justifies itself or does not. A drive unit with real torque in reserve turns the hill you avoid into the route you prefer, and it does it without asking you to hammer the pedals or slow to walking pace. That change in what you are willing to ride to is the whole reason people buy these.

02 Range

How far, honestly

Up to 70km or 140km with Dual Battery claimed, Extended Range Dual-Battery 48v 30Ah or Standard Single-Battery. Charging takes 5 Hours, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

The number worth knowing is not how far it goes on a perfect day, but how far it still goes in February with a headwind and a cold pack. Batteries lose capacity in the cold and regain it when they warm; a pack with genuine headroom absorbs that, and one bought exactly to your commute length does not.

03 Control

Null, and why it matters

Dual Piston Hydraulic Disc 180mm, 27.5" x 2.10" tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive. Rated to 124.7 kg all in, that is the weight the brakes and the contact patch are being asked to arrest on a wet painted line.

Nobody shops on brakes and everybody remembers them. The right question is not how hard it stops on a dry test but whether the fifth hard stop feels like the first, in the rain, with luggage and a passenger-weight load on the rack.

04 Fit

Fit decides whether a bike is still being ridden in month three, and it is the one specification a photograph cannot tell you — reach, standover and saddle height interact, and two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups. It weighs 29.5 kg, which is worth knowing before you commit if it has to come up a flight of stairs or onto a bus rack at the end of the ride.

05 Assist

Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time. Assistance runs to 32km/h/ 50km/h; past that the motor stops helping and the drivetrain is doing all of it, which is exactly when the spread of gears starts to matter.

Assist cut-off is set by regulation, not by ambition, and a bike that keeps helping past the legal limit is a different legal class the moment it leaves the shop. Knowing where the motor stops and you start is worth understanding before you buy rather than after.

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

The Rize MD Electric Bike is built for riders who want stronger hill-climbing performance and a more balanced riding feel than a typical rear-hub commuter. Its mid-drive layout sends motor power through the bike’s drivetrain, making it especially well suited to steep climbs, mixed terrain, and longer recreational rides.

Bafang Mid-Drive Motor and 120 N·m Torque

The Rize MD uses a Bafang BBS02 mid-drive motor producing up to 120 N·m of torque. On the current Canadian model, motor output is configured to meet the local market specification, while the U.S. version is listed at 750W.

A built-in gear-shift sensor briefly reduces motor power during gear changes, helping create smoother shifts and reduce stress on the drivetrain.

Samsung Battery and Optional Dual-Battery Range

The standard battery is a 48V 15Ah Samsung 21700-cell pack, providing approximately 720Wh of capacity.
