Why riders choose the Kukirin G4

What makes it a high-performance off-road electric scooter.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 Motor

70 km/h on the flat

2000W; peak at 2400W, rated to 70 km/h. It is rated to 30°, and that gradient figure is the one that matters here — Vancouver has more hills than flat, and the fourth of them on the ride home is where an underpowered machine starts to fade.

The honest test of a drive system is the fourth hill of the ride home, when the pack is down and your legs are done. A motor sized with headroom is still pulling cleanly there; one chosen to hit a price is audibly working. We would rather you rode this one up a real Vancouver grade than took our word for it.

  • 70 km/hTop speed
  • 30°Max gradient
  • 2000 WMotor

A gradient rating is measured with a light rider on dry ground. Loaded, wet, or with a low battery, treat 30° as optimistic.

02 Range

75 km claimed, and what that means

75 km claimed, 60V20Ah. Charging takes 10 hr, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

The number worth knowing is not how far it goes on a perfect day, but how far it still goes in February with a headwind and a cold pack. Batteries lose capacity in the cold and regain it when they warm; a pack with genuine headroom absorbs that, and one bought exactly to your commute length does not.

  • 75 kmClaimed range
  • 60 VBattery
  • 10 hrCharge time

75 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Stopping

11 inches of contact patch

11 inches tyres. Braking, tyre and suspension are one system and only as good as the weakest of the three: the best calipers stop nothing once the tyre lets go, and grip is what suspension exists to protect when the surface stops cooperating. All of it is working against 41.3 kg of machine before you add a rider, which is the load every stop has to absorb.

The wet-painted lines, steel plates and tram-smooth crossings this city is full of are the real test. Grip is not a number you can read off a page — it is contact patch, compound and how much the suspension keeps the tyre pressed to the road when the surface stops cooperating.

  • 11 inchesTyre
  • 41.3 kgWeight
  • 120 kgMax rider weight

Brakes need bedding in when new and checking after the first hundred kilometres. Whatever the specification says, an unbedded pad stops badly.

04 Weather

IP54 against a wet commute

IP54 rated, Headlight: Yes, 11 inches tyres. Half of the riding year here is wet and dark, which puts sealing and lighting in the same category as brakes rather than in the category of extras. Front and Rear double shock absorber keeps the tyre pressed to a surface that stops cooperating the moment it rains.

A weather rating describes a test, not a promise. It tells you the machine was built with sealing in mind, which matters — but rinsing road salt off after a wet ride, drying the charge port before connecting, and keeping it out of standing water will do more for its fifth winter than any rating on the box.

  • IP54Ingress rating
  • 11 inchesTyre

IP54 covers rain and road spray. It does not cover immersion — riding through standing water, or pressure-washing the machine, will get water past that seal and into the controller, and no warranty covers it. Wipe it down instead.

05 Carrying it

Folds to 1336 × 550 × 660 mm

41.3 kg, folded to 1336 × 550 × 660 mm. The number that decides whether a scooter gets used is rarely the range — it is whether you can carry it up a flight of stairs, into a boot or onto a bus rack without planning your day around it. Rated to 120 kg, so the weight it carries and the weight you carry are both accounted for.

The number that decides whether a scooter gets used is rarely the range — it is whether you can get it up a flight of stairs, into a boot, or onto a bus rack without planning your day around it. A machine that lives by the door gets ridden; one that lives in a shed gets sold.

  • 41.3 kgWeight
  • 120 kgMax rider weight
  • 11 inchesTyre

41.3 kg is a two-handed lift for most people, not a one-handed one. If it has to go on a bus rack or up stairs daily, come and pick it up in the shop first.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
