Why riders choose the Mercedes Benz Formula E Team

What makes it a premium urban performance e-bike.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 Power

Null, geared for gradient

80 Nm / 250 W mid-drive motor. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Torque is what you feel; watts are what the marketing quotes. A motor with useful pulling power low in its range gets you moving from a standstill on a gradient — at a light, on a driveway apron, halfway up a climb you had to stop on. Those are the moments that decide whether a bike gets ridden or parked.

Any climbing claim assumes a rider putting in their share. A throttle-only ascent drains the pack far faster than the range figure suggests.

02 Distance

Single 36V/7Ah of usable pack

70 km claimed, Single 36V/7Ah. Charging takes 3.5 hr, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

Range is the most quoted figure in this category and the least reliable, because it is measured in the conditions most favourable to it. What actually shapes your week is charge time and how much margin you have left at the end of a normal day — a pack you top up twice a week without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

  • 70 kmClaimed range
  • 36 VBattery
  • 3.5 hrCharge time

70 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Control

Stopping is the spec nobody shops on

Puncture Resistant tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive.

Stopping distance is set by the tyre as much as by the caliper. The best brakes in the world cannot exceed the grip available, which is why contact patch, compound and pressure matter as much on a wet Vancouver morning as the hardware clamping the rotor.

  • Puncture ResistantTyre
  • 20.5 kgWeight

BC requires a standard e-bike to stop from 32 km/h within 9 m on clean, level pavement. That is a dry-surface test — assume noticeably longer in Vancouver rain, and leave the gap to prove it.

04 Fit

6061 Aluminum Alloy frame, and what it means

Size: Large/ Medium/ Small· Applicable Height: Optimized for riders between 165-200 cm tall, 6061 Aluminum Alloy frame. Fit decides whether a bike is still being ridden in month three, and it is the one specification a photograph cannot tell you — reach, standover and saddle height interact, and two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups. It weighs 20.5 kg, which is worth knowing before you commit if it has to come up a flight of stairs or onto a bus rack at the end of the ride.

The frame is the one part you cannot upgrade later. Everything bolted to it can be changed as it wears or as your taste changes, which is why the material, the geometry and the honesty of the joins are worth more attention than the components hanging off them.

Height charts assume average proportions. Two riders at the same height with different inseams will want different setups, so treat any published range as a starting point and expect to move the saddle and bars.

05 Gears

Null

Gears: Enviolo constant variable transmission. Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time. Assistance runs to North America 32 km/hRest of World 25 km/h; past that the motor stops helping and the drivetrain is doing all of it, which is exactly when the spread of gears starts to matter.

Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do. The right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit in its efficient band, where it runs cooler and draws less; the wrong one grinds through both your knees and your range. A usable spread of gears is worth more than an extra sprocket you never select.

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

Mercedes-Benz Formula E Team Premium Urban Electric Bike

The Mercedes-Benz Formula E Team Electric Bike combines minimalist design, premium components, and a refined electric drivetrain for riders looking for a sophisticated urban e-bike.

A 250W mid-drive motor delivers up to 80 N·m of torque, while the 36V 7Ah battery provides a manufacturer-rated range of up to 70 km (43 miles). North American models are rated for speeds of up to 32 km/h (20 mph).

Smooth, Low-Maintenance Drivetrain

The Formula E Team eBike uses an Enviolo continuously variable transmission combined with a carbon belt drive, providing smooth gear changes without a conventional derailleur and chain.

This setup reduces routine drivetrain maintenance while helping create a quiet, clean riding experience suited to commuting and everyday city use.

Hydraulic Brakes and Lightweight Urban Design

Hydraulic disc brakes provide controlled stopping performance, while lightweight 700C alloy wheels and puncture-resistant tires are designed for efficient urban riding.

The 6061 aluminum frame and fork keep total bike weight to approximately 20.5 kg (45 lb) including the battery.

Battery and Charging

The single 36V 7Ah battery can be fully recharged in approximately 3.5 hours using the supplied 36V 2A charger.

Actual riding range varies with rider weight, terrain, assist level, temperature, speed, tire pressure, and riding conditions.

Premium Mercedes-Benz Formula E Styling

Designed as an officially licensed Mercedes-Benz Formula E product, this eBike combines understated styling with internally routed components and a clean, automotive-inspired aesthetic.

For riders looking for a Mercedes-Benz electric bike in Vancouver, ProMechBC offers local product support, service, and access to experienced electric-bike technicians.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
