Why riders choose the Monday Presidio

What makes it an electric bike.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 Climbing

500W, geared for gradient

500W. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Climbing is where an e-bike either justifies itself or does not. A drive unit with real torque in reserve turns the hill you avoid into the route you prefer, and it does it without asking you to hammer the pedals or slow to walking pace. That change in what you are willing to ride to is the whole reason people buy these.

  • 500 WMotor

Any climbing claim assumes a rider putting in their share. A throttle-only ascent drains the pack far faster than the range figure suggests.

02 Distance

48V 11.6 Ah of usable pack

Up to 48 km claimed, 48V 11.6 Ah. Charging takes 4-5 hours, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

The number worth knowing is not how far it goes on a perfect day, but how far it still goes in February with a headwind and a cold pack. Batteries lose capacity in the cold and regain it when they warm; a pack with genuine headroom absorbs that, and one bought exactly to your commute length does not.

  • 48 kmClaimed range
  • 48 VBattery
  • 4-5 hoursCharge time

Up to 48 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Stopping

Null, and why it matters

Dual Radius Hydraulic Brakes -180mm/160mm Rotor, 20” x 4" tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive. Rated to 125 kg all in, that is the weight the brakes and the contact patch are being asked to arrest on a wet painted line.

An e-bike carries far more mass and speed than the bicycle it is descended from, and the brakes are the component most often carried over unchanged. Consistent lever feel at the bottom of a long descent — no fade, no wandering bite point — is what you are paying for, and it is invisible until the one time you need it.

  • 125 kgMax total load

BC requires a standard e-bike to stop from 32 km/h within 9 m on clean, level pavement. That is a dry-surface test — assume noticeably longer in Vancouver rain, and leave the gap to prove it.

04 Fit

Fit is what you feel on day thirty

A bike that nearly fits is a bike that stays in the hallway. Come and stand over it before you decide.

The frame is the one part you cannot upgrade later. Everything bolted to it can be changed as it wears or as your taste changes, which is why the material, the geometry and the honesty of the joins are worth more attention than the components hanging off them.

  • 125 kgMax total load

Height charts assume average proportions. Two riders at the same height with different inseams will want different setups, so treat any published range as a starting point and expect to move the saddle and bars.

05 Assist

Where the assist stops and you start

Pedal Assist Sensor: Intelligent 3 level pedal assist · Throttle: Half Twist Throttle. Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time.

Assist cut-off is set by regulation, not by ambition, and a bike that keeps helping past the legal limit is a different legal class the moment it leaves the shop. Knowing where the motor stops and you start is worth understanding before you buy rather than after.

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
