Why riders choose the Segway Ninebot MAX G2

What makes it a commuter electric scooter.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 Off the line

32 km/h on the flat

450 W, 1000 W peak, rated to 32 km/h. It is rated to Approx. 22%, and that gradient figure is the one that matters here — Vancouver has more hills than flat, and the fourth of them on the ride home is where an underpowered machine starts to fade.

Power is easy to sell and hard to live with. The specification that matters is not the peak figure but how much of it is available when the battery is half empty and the motor is hot — which is exactly the condition a commute puts it in, and exactly the condition a showroom never does.

  • 1000 WPeak power
  • 32 km/hTop speed
  • 22%Max gradient

A gradient rating is measured with a light rider on dry ground. Loaded, wet, or with a low battery, treat Approx. 22% as optimistic.

02 The battery

45 km claimed, and what that means

45 km claimed, 36 V. Charging takes 5 Hours, and that is the figure that actually shapes your week — a pack you top up overnight without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

The number worth knowing is not how far it goes on a perfect day, but how far it still goes in February with a headwind and a cold pack. Batteries lose capacity in the cold and regain it when they warm; a pack with genuine headroom absorbs that, and one bought exactly to your commute length does not.

  • 45 kmClaimed range
  • 36 VBattery
  • 5 HoursCharge time

45 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Stopping

10-inch Tubeless Self-sealing of contact patch

10-inch Tubeless Self-sealing tyres. Braking, tyre and suspension are one system and only as good as the weakest of the three: the best calipers stop nothing once the tyre lets go, and grip is what suspension exists to protect when the surface stops cooperating. All of it is working against 24.3 kg of machine before you add a rider, which is the load every stop has to absorb.

Confidence is the actual product here. A machine that stops predictably, in the wet, from speed, on a surface you did not choose, is one you ride assertively and therefore safely. One you have to think about is one you ride tentatively, which is its own kind of risk.

  • 24.3 kgWeight
  • 120 kgMax rider weight

Brakes need bedding in when new and checking after the first hundred kilometres. Whatever the specification says, an unbedded pad stops badly.

04 In the rain

IPX5 against a wet commute

IPX5 rated, 10-inch Tubeless Self-sealing tyres. Half of the riding year here is wet and dark, which puts sealing and lighting in the same category as brakes rather than in the category of extras.

Vancouver's riding season is mostly wet and mostly dark, which makes sealing and lighting the difference between a machine you use in November and one you look at. Water finds bearings, connectors and controllers first, and the damage from it is gradual enough that you notice it as unreliability rather than as a leak.

  • IPX5Ingress rating

IPX5 covers rain and road spray. It does not cover immersion — riding through standing water, or pressure-washing the machine, will get water past that seal and into the controller, and no warranty covers it. Wipe it down instead.

05 Storage

Folds to 47.6 × 22.4 × 23.8 in

24.3 kg, folded to 47.6 × 22.4 × 23.8 in. The number that decides whether a scooter gets used is rarely the range — it is whether you can carry it up a flight of stairs, into a boot or onto a bus rack without planning your day around it. Rated to 120 kg, so the weight it carries and the weight you carry are both accounted for.

Weight and folded size are a trade against everything else on this page. Bigger batteries, real suspension and proper brakes all add mass, and the right answer depends entirely on whether your ride ends at a bike rack or at the top of three flights. Be honest about which one you have.

  • 24.3 kgWeight

  • 120 kgMax rider weight

24.3 kg is a two-handed lift for most people, not a one-handed one. If it has to go on a bus rack or up stairs daily, come and pick it up in the shop first.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
