Why riders choose the Mercedes Benz Rallye Edition

What makes it a premium motorsport-inspired all-terrain e-bike.

Every figure below is labelled with where it comes from, so a manufacturer’s claim never reads as a measurement.

01 The drive unit

Null, geared for gradient

250W with four power modes/ 750W with four power modes/ OFF – No motor assist, NORMAL – Energy conservation for long rides, SPORT – A set-it-and-forget-it balance of power and efficiency, SPORT-PLUS – Extra boost for when the trail demands more. Watts set the ceiling; what you feel on a grade is how much pulling power is available low in the range, where a climb from a standstill actually happens.

Vancouver is not a flat city, and a bike specified for one is obvious within a week. Assistance that holds its character on a sustained grade, rather than fading as the motor heats, is the difference between arriving comfortable and arriving determined never to take that route again.

Any climbing claim assumes a rider putting in their share. A throttle-only ascent drains the pack far faster than the range figure suggests.

02 Between charges

How far, honestly

250w Motor: 60miles /100km/ 750w Motor :70miles /110km claimed, 48V, 10AH in North America or 36V, 10Ah in Europe. The figure that shapes your week is not the maximum but the margin left at the end of an ordinary day, in the cold, with the lights on.

Range is the most quoted figure in this category and the least reliable, because it is measured in the conditions most favourable to it. What actually shapes your week is charge time and how much margin you have left at the end of a normal day — a pack you top up twice a week without thinking about it beats a bigger one you have to plan around.

Lithium packs lose capacity with age and with cold. A two-year-old battery in February will not do what a new one did in July, and no range figure on any page accounts for that.

03 Stopping

Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, and why it matters

Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, Pirelli Scorpion eMTB, 27.5x2." / All Terrain tyres. Stopping distance is set by the contact patch as much as by the caliper: hardware can only ask for as much grip as the tyre has to give, which is why both are quoted here rather than just the one that sounds impressive.

Nobody shops on brakes and everybody remembers them. The right question is not how hard it stops on a dry test but whether the fifth hard stop feels like the first, in the rain, with luggage and a passenger-weight load on the rack.

  • Tektro hydraulic disc brakesBrakes

BC requires a standard e-bike to stop from 32 km/h within 9 m on clean, level pavement. That is a dry-surface test — assume noticeably longer in Vancouver rain, and leave the gap to prove it.

04 Fit

Sized for Frame Size: Small / Medium / Large

Frame Size: Small / Medium / Large, 6061 Aluminum Alloy frame. Fit decides whether a bike is still being ridden in month three, and it is the one specification a photograph cannot tell you — reach, standover and saddle height interact, and two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups.

Fit is the specification that decides whether a bike gets ridden after the first month, and it is the one that cannot be judged from a photograph. Reach, standover and saddle height interact — two riders of the same height with different inseams want genuinely different setups, and the adjustment range is what lets a bike belong to you rather than merely fit you.

Height charts assume average proportions. Two riders at the same height with different inseams will want different setups, so treat any published range as a starting point and expect to move the saddle and bars.

05 Drivetrain

Where the assist stops and you start

Throttle: 750w Motor: Max throttle assist speed: 20 MPH, Class 1. Gearing decides what the motor is asked to do: the right gear on a climb keeps you spinning and keeps the drive unit cool and efficient, and the wrong one grinds through your knees and your range at the same time. Assistance runs to 250W Motor: 25km/h/ 750w Motor: 28mph; past that the motor stops helping and the drivetrain is doing all of it, which is exactly when the spread of gears starts to matter.

Assist cut-off is set by regulation, not by ambition, and a bike that keeps helping past the legal limit is a different legal class the moment it leaves the shop. Knowing where the motor stops and you start is worth understanding before you buy rather than after.

Pedal-assist levels are a controller setting, not a measurement. What one brand tunes into its middle level another spreads across two, so treat the count as a range of options rather than as a spec you can compare across bikes.

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Rallye Edition Electric Bike

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Rallye Edition Electric Bike is a premium performance e-bike designed for riders who want advanced technology, distinctive motorsport styling, and a highly refined drivetrain.

The North American Rallye Edition uses a 750W motor with four performance modes and a manufacturer-listed top assist speed of up to 28 mph (45 km/h). Its dual-battery system supports a maximum manufacturer-rated range of up to 70 miles (113 km).

Pinion Electronic Gearbox and Gates Belt Drive

One of the Rallye Edition’s most distinctive features is its Pinion C1.9 9-speed electronic Smart.Shift gearbox, handmade in Germany and designed to complete gear changes in approximately 0.2 seconds.

The gearbox is paired with a Gates carbon belt drive, providing quiet power transfer and reducing routine maintenance compared with a traditional chain-and-derailleur drivetrain.

Dual Battery and Long-Range Riding

The Rallye Edition uses a primary downtube battery together with a secondary seat-tube battery to extend riding range.

In the North American configuration, N+ lists a 48V 10Ah primary battery and an additional 48V 5Ah seat-tube battery, with a maximum range of up to 70 miles under suitable conditions.

Suspension, Hydraulic Brakes and Pirelli Tires

A front suspension fork helps absorb bumps and uneven surfaces, while Tektro 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes provide controlled stopping performance.

The bike rides on 27.5" × 2.6" Pirelli Scorpion eMTB tires, giving it a more all-terrain-oriented setup than the road-focused Mercedes Track Edition.

Premium Mercedes-AMG F1 Technology

A custom one-piece cockpit incorporates a large 5.5-inch full-color display, while Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Race performance modes allow riders to adjust motor behavior for different riding conditions.

The Rallye Edition also features distinctive Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 styling and a 6061 aluminum chassis, with a manufacturer-listed weight of approximately 31 kg for the 750W version.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.
