Why riders choose the Segway Ninebot MAX G30

Segway Ninebot MAX G30: 551Wh Range, Braking & Commuter Practicality

A closer look at the Segway MAX G30 motor, 551Wh battery, rated range, self-sealing tires, braking and everyday commuter ownership.

01 Power

350W rear motor with G30 and G30P speed differences

The Segway Ninebot MAX G30 uses a 350W rear-wheel-drive motor. Segway lists the standard G30 at up to 25 km/h, while the G30P market variant is listed at up to 30 km/h; both share a maximum gradient rating of approximately 20%.

Regional speed configuration matters when comparing listings, so the model suffix and local settings should be checked rather than assuming every MAX G30 has the same top speed.

G30 and G30P speed ratings differ by market configuration. Local software settings, rider load, temperature and traction can also affect maximum speed.

02 Range

36V 551Wh battery with up to 65 km listed range

A 36V 551Wh battery provides up to 65 km of manufacturer-listed range under suitable test conditions. The built-in charging system takes about six hours for a full charge.

  • 551 WhBattery energy
  • 65 kmListed range
  • ~6 hrCharge time

65 km is the manufacturer's figure, measured on flat ground, in warm weather, with a light rider holding a steady low speed. Vancouver hills, winter temperatures and stop-start traffic all cost you range. We have not yet run our own road test on this one; when we do, the tested figure goes in the spec table beside the claim.

03 Ride feel

Drum and regenerative braking with 10-inch self-sealing tires

The G30 combines a front drum brake with rear regenerative braking and 10-inch self-sealing tubeless tires. It has no dedicated suspension, so the pneumatic tires provide an important part of its ride comfort.

  • 18.7 kgWeight
  • 100 kgMax rider weight

Brakes need bedding in when new and checking after the first hundred kilometres. Whatever the specification says, an unbedded pad stops badly.

IPX5 protection with built-in front and rear LED lighting

Segway lists the MAX G30 with IPX5 water resistance plus built-in front and rear LED lighting. The integrated lighting improves everyday visibility, while the sealed commuter design is intended for normal road spray rather than deep-water exposure.

IPX5 is a laboratory water-resistance rating, not a waterproof guarantee. Avoid immersion, deep standing water and pressure washing, and dry the charge area before connecting power.

05 Carrying it

18.7 kg to carry

18.7 kg, folded to 1167 × 423 × 534 mm. The number that decides whether a scooter gets used is rarely the range — it is whether you can carry it up a flight of stairs, into a boot or onto a bus rack without planning your day around it. Rated to 100 kg, so the weight it carries and the weight you carry are both accounted for.

Weight and folded size are a trade against everything else on this page. Bigger batteries, real suspension and proper brakes all add mass, and the right answer depends entirely on whether your ride ends at a bike rack or at the top of three flights. Be honest about which one you have.

  • 18.7 kgWeight
  • 100 kgMax rider weight

18.7 kg is a two-handed lift for most people, not a one-handed one. If it has to go on a bus rack or up stairs daily, come and pick it up in the shop first.

Segway Ninebot MAX G30 Electric Scooter

The Segway Ninebot MAX G30 is a long-range commuter scooter built around a 350W rear-wheel-drive motor and a 551Wh battery. Segway rates the G30 for a typical range of approximately 65 km, while the standard G30 configuration is listed at up to 25 km/h. Market-specific G30P versions use a higher 30 km/h setting, so model designation matters when comparing MAX G30 specs.

Ten-inch tubeless self-sealing pneumatic tires help reduce puncture-related downtime, while a front drum brake and rear electronic brake provide a low-maintenance braking setup. The built-in charger, one-step folding system, Smart-BMS and IPX5 water-resistance rating helped make the MAX G30 a widely used everyday commuter platform.

MAX G30 vs. Segway MAX G2

The G30 is the simpler, proven platform for riders who value range and straightforward maintenance. The newer Segway MAX G2 adds suspension and a more modern feature set for riders prioritizing ride comfort. Browse the full Segway Ninebot collection for other current models.

Who Is the Segway MAX G30 Best For?

At approximately 19 kg, the G30 is lighter than many modern performance commuters and is well suited to paved daily travel, storage at work or home and riders who do not need high-speed performance. Segway's 65 km typical-range figure is based on controlled test conditions, so real-world distance varies with speed, rider weight, temperature, hills and tire pressure.

I drove all the way from Seattle to bring my daughter's scooter to ProMechBC and I could not be more pleased with both the repairs and the customer service. I will definitely be bringing the scooter North of the border when it needs some love.

Recently had an accident with my Apollo Go — luckily nothing major was damaged, but it still needed some repair and replacement parts. Service was great, and I got my scooter back within a week. :D
